The Apocalypse has been prophesied over and over again. The nature staggers toward its end. If humanity destroys its planet, does it stops to exist? Zero is a metaphor for the struggle of man with his earthly binds and the elementary principles that govern our universe. An end as an opportunity for a new beginning. The principal of hope transported through dance and images.

The music of famous contemporary composers finds its visual counterpart in the costumes of the fashion designer Iris van Herpen, who designs haute couture and worked for Lady Gaga and Björk. Her designs seem to be from an other world: stunning, futuristic and ephemeral.

HOMO FABER FELIX LANDERER BASED ON MAX FRISCH

Homo Faber comes from Latin and means "creatve man". Walter Faber, protagonist in this novel by Max Frisch, sees himself as such. He is a technician who does not believe in coincidences or fate until he slithers into fateful coincidences: He has an accident by airplane, he witnesses the death of his best friend, he meets at his fiftieth birthday for the first time his daughter Sabeth and falls in love. He represses this truth. Sabeth's mother Helen had kept from him the birth of their daughter. Then a tragic accident happens. Walter and Helen meet at the deathbed of their daughter. Like Oedipus, he looks at the end of his existence, which destruction he had caused himself by hubris and delusion.

Young choreographic talents of Tanzcompagnie Konzert Theater Bern approach in an individual way selected films and present their own chorographical interpretations. Using pieces of music and images that are known from the selected movies, they refer to the filmic models. In season 2013/14 "cut 1" takes place under the motto "animated films".

This tragedy confronts us with the question of images of identity and its destructibility. Othello works himself up and manages to be a sovereign and powerful General to thereafter become a murder, a furious beast.

He fulfils the stereotype of the wild, black man. The piece demonstrates how the prejudices of others make Othello become, what they see in him.

Estefania Miranda draws a picture of a society that can not integrate the foreign. She talks about strategies of exclusion and about the closure of European borders, topics that have gained frightening explosiveness in our days.

Young people from the Gaza have written down in monologues their thoughts and feelings. They describe their lives and their dreams during the war. They describe the feeling of fear and the acceptance of the fact that they could be dead in the next moment.

NEXT GENERATION

The dancers of the ensemble have already in the dance series CUT and LSD the opportunity to expand their field of activity and to explore their own ideas and expressions in a relaxed atmosphere. The best contributions to this dance series are selected and developed further for “Next Generation”. Ensemble members are given the opportunity to apply with their own choreographies for the “Berner Tanzpreise” dance awards.

INTERNATIONALE GASTSPIELE I & II

20th - 23rd MAI 2014

The new “Berner Tanzpreise” dance awards were created to support young choreographic talents. Artists can apply internationally through an open application process. Selected productions are invited to the festival “Tanzplattform Bern” and shown in the Vidmarhallen. A jury of experts will award together with the Bernese audience several prizes.

BERNER TANZPREISE AWARDS AND GALA

One of the highlights of “Tanzplattform Bern” is the awarding of the “Berner Tanzpreise” dance awards. The first prize is a production prize. It allows the winner to realize a choreography with the dance ensemble of Konzert Theater Bern. Excerpts of the selected choreographies, highlights from the finishing season and exquisite guest performances are presented during the Gala.

LSD - LABORATOIRE SUISSE DE LA DANSE DANCE SERIES

Starting 9th November 2013

Dancers of the ensemble explore together with Bernese artists their creativity. Each evening is unique and has its own theme. They consist of a mixture of improvisation, repertoire excerpts, interviews, and guest performances of dancers, musicians or singers.

DANCE AND THE CITY SITE SPECIFIC DANCE PERFORMANCES

STARTING AUGUST 2013

"Dance And The City" are unique, site-specific dance performances, which take dance out of the usual theatre spaces and into the city. They can be flash mobs, as well as special dance interactions or performances at places where you do not expect dance.
